Canyelles is located in a valley about 15 minutes by car to the bigger towns Sitges and Vilanova i la Geltru .
The village is often a starting point for beautiful hikes or bike tours to peaks of the mountains surrounding the valley, such as the Puig de l’Àliga (358m) and the Puig del Montgròs (278m).
If you are looking for a little more adventure, you can also climb the sides of the Penya de l’Escofet within the Parc d’Olèrdola.
The most iconic feature of the village is its 15th century castle. The castle was built as a defence for the route connecting the sea to the villages in the mountains. Unfortunately the interior cannot be visited, as the castle is currently private property.
Nevertheless, it is definitely worth to view the castle from the outside when you are taking a walk through the village.
The Santa Llúcia Fair in Canyelles is one of the largest Christmas markets in Catalonia, offering local crafts, seasonal treats, and handmade gifts. Visitors can enjoy roasted chestnuts, mulled wine, and live music, all set in a festive atmosphere. It’s a great spot to experience the holiday spirit in a charming town.
